Rebuilding After Devastation - Restoring a Home with Care and Craftsmanship
First4Property was contacted through an insurance referral to assist in the restoration of a bungalow in Swanage, Dorset that had suffered significant fire damage. The fire had destroyed the existing roof structure and left extensive water damage throughout the property – with an estimated 750,000 litres of water used to extinguish the blaze!
Our Role
Our team was swiftly mobilised to carry out urgent strip-out works and begin the rebuild process. We were responsible for:
- Removing the fire-damaged roofing structure
- Designing and installing a new 153m² cut timber roof
- Stripping out and disposing of water-damaged internal materials
- Coordinating works safely and efficiently to support the wider restoration effort
Challenges & Achievements
This project required a balance of structural integrity, safety, and sensitivity – working within a damaged building while ensuring timelines were met and future resilience was built in. The extensive water damage meant that significant drying, assessment, and planning had to be undertaken before the rebuild could begin. Thanks to our experienced team, we were able to restore the property’s structural framework and help move the project toward full recovery and reinstatement for the homeowner.
